This is a special time of day, when they meet with their peers and read and discuss books on their reading level. The books arrived at the perfect time in the spring before our annual school-wide read-a-thon fundraiser. Over the three week, our small school read over 64,000 minutes! To celebrate, we had a school wide celebration, where the readers with the most minutes pied their teacher in the face.\r\n\r\nWithout a doubt, the generosity of this community contributed to the amount of time our students chose to read during their free time. They were excited by the new variety of books, with characters and themes that reflected their interests and circumstances. I'm continually delighted to observe the students pick from our new collection, enjoy their read, and pass it on to the next student. Stories such as Lost Treasure of the Emerald Eye, The Dragon's Code, The Ghost of the Woods, The Cave of Stars, The Mountain of Fire, The Legend of the Maze, and The Secret of the Crystal Fairies will encourage our students to explore new worlds while building vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and a genuine love of reading.\r\nHaving high-interest books that children are excited to pick up is such an important part of developing lifelong readers. Our students will be able to enjoy these books during independent reading, partner reading, read-aloud's, book discussions, and quiet reading time.\r\nEvery resource you have provided will be used throughout the school year and will benefit many students for years to come.
