We have been able to do many more hands on activities to teach math content than every before! The kids were over the moon when they started to see our new math activities arrive! One of their favorite math games we received is Math Island! Not only do they practice addition and subtraction, but it gives them an adventure to follow and keeps the engagement exciting! They have also loved the number, addition, and subtraction math puzzles! They love problem solving and the puzzles have allowed them a higher level hands on approach that combines fitting together puzzles and our math concepts. \r\n\r\nWe have used a lot of the activities donated to our classroom and we look forward to continuing to use them in our math centers. Pictured above is my whole group instruction about taking deep breaths that also utilized the felt emotions kit and cards as a complimentary visual as well.\r\n\r\nStudents were excited about the new materials as well as to make something to take home. Taking deep breaths is a strategy made more concrete by providing students with props (e.g., silk flower, tea light candle) that remind them to \"sniff a flower, blow a candle\". Each student made a kit to take home, in an effort to help them use deep breaths as a calming strategy while at home with their family as well. \r\n\r\nCreating a calm down kit to go home and using associated SEL materials in the classroom was accomplished by 13 morning students and 15 afternoon students, so this will have an impact on 28 families going forward.
