When the boxes arrived, the \"Bulls & Bears\" game and the \"Real-World Math\" kits immediately grabbed their attention. Math can often be a source of anxiety for my students, but seeing these colorful, interactive materials turned that anxiety into curiosity. They were eager to open the boxes and start setting up the game boards.\r\n\r\nWe have hit the ground running with the magnetic money and bills. We are currently using them to simulate daily transactions on our magnetic whiteboard. For example, we create a \"menu\" for the day, and students have to come up to the board and select the correct combination of magnetic coins and bills to \"pay\" for their lunch items. This tactile experience is crucial for my students; holding the physical representation of the money helps bridge the gap between abstract numbers and real-world value.\r\n\r\nOur next big step is playing the \"Bulls & Bears\" game as a full class tournament. We are using it to introduce more advanced concepts like investing and managing unexpected expenses. Watching my students laugh while learning about stock markets and budgeting is a highlight of my year. You have given them the tools to navigate the financial world with confidence, and for that, we are incredibly grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1753278431202,"projectUrl":"project/real-world-math-for-independent-living/9482554/","projectTitle":"Real-World Math for Independent Living","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Zen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9304839_orig.jpg?crop=2160,2160,x0,y359&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753030987411","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9304839"},{"teacherId":9304839,"projectId":9482517,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contribution to \"Sound Investments.\" When the boxes arrived and we unpacked the noise-canceling headphones, the reaction from my students was one of immediate relief. For many of my scholars in the Multi-Intensive Autism Center, the ordinary hum of a classroom—chairs scraping, pencils tapping, distant conversations—can feel like a chaotic roar that makes learning impossible.\r\n\r\nWe have integrated this technology directly into our most active lessons, specifically our financial literacy \"store simulations.\" In the past, the excitement and noise of the mock store would often cause some students to shut down or withdraw, preventing them from practicing their budgeting skills. Now, with the headphones, they have the power to control their environment. I have seen students who previously avoided group activities put on their headphones and confidently step up to the \"cash register\" to count change.\r\n\r\nThe most exciting aspect for the students is the autonomy it gives them. They don't have to ask for silence; they can create it for themselves. One student, who is brilliant with numbers but highly sensitive to sound, now wears them during every independent math block. The headphones have not only lowered his anxiety but have also visibly increased his calculation speed and accuracy. You have given them the gift of focus.","fullyFundedDate":1753984683610,"projectUrl":"project/sound-investments/9482517/","projectTitle":"Sound Investments","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Zen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9304839_orig.jpg?crop=2160,2160,x0,y359&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753030987411","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9304839"},{"teacherId":9304839,"projectId":9482515,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support of our classroom! When the package of sensory tools and calming materials arrived, the energy in the room shifted immediately. My students were inquisitive and excited to explore the textures of the \"monkey stringy\" balls and the different feel of the calm strips. It was a joy to see them immediately gravitate toward the items that felt most soothing to them individually.\r\n\r\nWe have officially established our designated \"Calming Corner,\" now equipped with the posters and fidgets you provided. This space has become a vital resource for my students. Just yesterday, a student who was feeling overwhelmed by a transition was able to go to the corner, use a sensory ball to regulate their breathing, and return to their desk ready to work within five minutes. Without these tools, that moment might have resulted in a much longer period of dysregulation.\r\n\r\nOur next step is building independence. We are currently teaching a unit on self-advocacy, where students learn to recognize their own stress signals and proactively use the calm strips on their desks or request the fidget grips before they reach a breaking point. Your donation isn't just providing toys; it is teaching them life-long coping skills that will serve them well beyond high school.","fullyFundedDate":1755521836200,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-learning-for-hands-on-minds/9482515/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Learning for Hands-On Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Zen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9304839_orig.jpg?crop=2160,2160,x0,y359&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753030987411","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9304839"},{"teacherId":9304839,"projectId":9482314,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your generosity in bringing the \"Caring and Creative\" project to life. When the boxes arrived, the excitement in our classroom was palpable. My students were immediately drawn to the new materials, eager to see how we would transform our space.\r\n\r\nWe have already put the new resources to work by diving deep into our \"social stories.\" Previously, trying to map out complex emotions and character motivations on small sheets of paper was a frustration for many of my scholars. With the new large easel pads and visual aids, we now have a \"big canvas\" that matches their big ideas. We are currently using these tools to collaboratively dissect conflicts and visually illustrate solutions, turning abstract social concepts into something tangible and manageable. The addition of the sensory lighting has also helped create a focused, calming environment where this difficult emotional work can happen.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are taking these skills to the next level. Now that my students are getting comfortable identifying emotions on the big screen and charts, we are preparing to launch a service project based on the needs they've identified in our community. You haven't just provided school supplies; you've given my students a platform to express themselves and the confidence to step into others' shoes.","fullyFundedDate":1758230503761,"projectUrl":"project/caring-and-creative/9482314/","projectTitle":"Caring and Creative","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Zen","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9304839_orig.jpg?crop=2160,2160,x0,y359&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1753030987411","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9304839"},{"teacherId":9304839,"projectId":9482643,"letterContent":"Thank you for helping us kick off our new soccer program! For many of them, typical PE classes can be overwhelming, but having our own specialized equipment allows us to learn at our own pace in a safe, supported environment.\r\n\r\nWe are already using the agility cones to set up visual boundaries and passing lanes. This visual structure is incredibly helpful for my students with autism, as it makes the abstract concept of \"staying in position\" concrete and understandable. Just this week, I watched a student who usually prefers to play alone successfully navigate a dribbling course and pass the ball to a teammate—a huge milestone in social interaction and motor planning!\r\n\r\nOur next step is to organize a friendly \"skills showcase\" where students can demonstrate what they've learned. We are working on organizing the equipment into the new mesh bags at the end of every session, turning cleanup time into a lesson on responsibility and organization. A cleaner classroom isn't just about appearances—it has a real impact on students' ability to learn. They can now move freely, find what they need more easily, and stay on task without the distractions of clutter or mess.\r\n\r\nWhat excites the students most is how different the room feels. They take notice of how fresh and organized everything is and often comment on how it makes them want to work harder. Some have even stepped up to take on daily classroom jobs to help maintain the space, which has fostered a greater sense of responsibility and pride in their learning environment. It's amazing to see how something as simple as a clean space can shift the way students approach their day.\r\n\r\nOne student who used to struggle with staying focused shared that \"it's easier to think when it's not messy.\" That small moment showed me how much this project has mattered. Reading is so important while acquiring a language because it's the perfect model of how language is structured. Many of these books they have read in their first language so by now reading them in Spanish gives them the confidence or reading it because they already know what happens and now they are just focusing on decoding the words.\r\n\r\nBy doing this, it allows them the opportunity to also notice and transfer similarities from their first language into the target language, and this sparks the right connections between the 2 languages so it increases the speed in which they acquire the new language.","fullyFundedDate":1744308445679,"projectUrl":"project/expanding-bilingual-minds-a-spanish-bo/9236206/","projectTitle":"Expanding Bilingual Minds - a Spanish Book at a time.","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Swain","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3801407_orig.jpg?crop=3872,3872,x0,y283&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1754063808209","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-swain146"},{"teacherId":3801407,"projectId":9121907,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generosity in supporting of our classroom project!
