We were able to officially use it for the first time last week! Our Leadership class lead a school wide \"Thankfulness Challenge\" where students encouraged their peers to write down three things they are grateful for. \r\n\r\nOnce the paper was filled out, they were told to turn it in for a cup of Hot Chocolate and Marshmallows in the Mental Wellness Room. Our students reaction when they first saw the cart, coffee maker, hot chocolate and cups was one of excitement! Students were able to self-serve their treat for participation. Most students were surprised to see the new equiment in our Gym as many students have never had the opportunity to practice yoga or had been on a yoga mat before for a class. Many of the students were courious about the equipment and it was their couriousity that encouraged a few students to join in on the fun. We are so greatful to receive additional materials as we were in desperate need of organizers.\r\n\r\nThis school year has been awesome to create a Zen Den in our Wellness Center that is specifically designed to calm the central nervous system of our students. Once the teachers at my school saw the Mental Health calming corner, they wanted one for their classrooms. These corners have changed our school culture as students can take a break when frustrated in these spaces and gain control over their emotions before returning to school work. \r\n\r\nWhat's so great about having these corners in the classroom is that now students will not have to leave and go to the mental health office but can access a calming space immediately. This raises the probability that students will stay in the classroom and not miss instruction.\r\n\r\nOur high school students expressed excitement when the teachers set up their corners. They loved the chairs, fuzzy rugs, lights, and manipulatives. They couldn't wait to hug the weighted stuffed animals, which is so funny because these are huge high school students! We have not had the opportunity to use the materials as of yet but are planning on it soon. When our students saw the materials delivered they were super excited to see what was in the large boxes and help to open them. They were pleased to see the beautiful colors of the yoga mats and bolsters. There was some disbelief on their part that these materials were donated by Dicks Sporting Goods. \r\n\r\nBecause of you, I can now teach an entire class mindful movement to our High School students. I am currently coordinating a series of classes with our Physical Education teacher so that I can teach after Spring break. \r\n\r\nOverall, our school is excited to integrate this type of physical activity into our school curriculum as students do not have the financial means or access to engage in Yoga in their community.
