One child clutched a set of new dramatic play tools to their chest and asked, \"Is this all really for us to keep?\" They were absolutely thrilled to explore the new items. \r\n\r\nMoving forward, our next steps are rooted deeply in place-based learning. We are using this high-interest dramatic play center as a laboratory to unpack the culture, economy, and people of our unique local community. Over the next few weeks, our students will transition from acting out generic roles to simulating the real neighborhood establishments that make our specific town special, like Josh & John's Ice Cream, the Fire Station and the pumpkin farm. Back in the classroom, the children will collaborate to transform our dramatic play center into these exact community landmarks, designing their own place-based props, local menus, and neighbor-focused roles.
