I start of the year with read alouds to help connect us as we get to know each other. We find laughter in inside jokes discovered in our favorite books. We form alliances with one another rooting on our favorite characters together. We have honest conversations spurred by topics in our books. Then after I have built our community with the help of our favorite books, it is time for them to take community building in their own hands by reading independently and sharing these stories, ideas, dreams with their friends. Your donation has directly impacted this. Students were able to read exciting new stories and continue this culture of connection with their peers. \r\n Students are also motivated by hitting their academic goals with this culture built on a love of reading. We use a word tracking app to see how many words kids are reading each year. With the help of your donations, more than half of my class has already read more words than they did by the end of the year last year. In particular, I have a student James who started the year believing that it was unattainable to reach an end of year reading goal of one million words. He read The Wild Robot that was donated and that spurred a love of reading in him! He is now a couple of books away from achieving that end of year goal!\r\n Your donation has been life changing. It has awoken a love of reading in these students and helped bring so much joy to our classroom community. I cannot thank you enough.","fullyFundedDate":1726673028692,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-love-of-reading-in-ms-dorset/8577714/","projectTitle":"Building a Love of Reading in Ms. Dorsett's Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dorsett","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9633457"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_108158","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":443,"numTeachers":47,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":3,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":91,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"9.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":42.3,"schoolId":108158,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Rocky Mountain Preparatory - Ruby Hill on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Rocky Mountain Preparatory - Ruby Hill","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/colorado-department-of-education/strive-prep-ruby-hill/108158"}
