The hands on learning activities donated include several Magnet activities, Math activity centers, an Earthquake Engineering kit, a Dig and Discover Dinosaur Skeletons set and Animal Specimen kits. Having fun and varied STEM activities for our preschoolers inspires all of us to learn together by exploring, observing, analyzing, failing and actively participating in learning. We know for our youngest learners that learning through play and exploration helps children develop character traits of grit, determination, problem solving, and teamwork. \r\n \r\n The children are able to choose different activities in our science center that relate to the themes. In January, our school held a Hibernation Day. The children explored with flashlights viewing 10 different animals hibernating in their 3D lifelike habitat dioramas. Having the animal specimens kits alongside the hibernation lessons allowed students to put animal bones into their hands to touch and feel, they explored x-rays of the animals and saw the different tracks animals make. Children also viewed an informational cards with a photo of the animals in the wild. Each part of the specimen kit added to the children's learning about animals and how they live, what they need to survive and how they are the same and different.\r\n\r\nOur most recent theme was watching the Artemis II mission. Seeing history in the making was so fun and exciting. Having the Magnetic Tiles for 3D building our own Artemis rocket added complexity and creativity to their designs. Through exploration, the children manipulated the colored tiles to understand mixing primary colors to make secondary colors. The Magnetic Maze and the Magnetic Field Wonder Window helped the children understand how the planets orbit and how that orbit was used by Artemis II to get around the Moon and back to Earth! Magnets also helped us understand the concept of gravity and zero gravity! \r\n\r\n After being Space Explorers, we will transition to being Paleontologists and end our year studying Dinosaurs! Definitely a favorite topic for preschoolers! The Dig and Discover Dinosaur tactile skeletons are a hands-on fossils that can be used with playdough or kinesthetic sand. I am sure it will be a very popular center and a lot of fun and learning will be witnessed!\r\n\r\n Thank you so much for helping me create a fun, hands-on learning environment that is inspiring our next generation of Scientists, Engineers, Mathematicians and Dreamers!","fullyFundedDate":1768503065160,"projectUrl":"project/future-stem-leaders/9817173/","projectTitle":"Future STEM Leaders","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Andrea","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9239373"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_128949","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":140,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":15,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":63,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - Pre-K","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.1,"schoolId":128949,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Canon School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Canon School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/cheyenne-mountain-school-district-12/canon-school/128949"}
