Freeman, author of \"Alone.\" Because of your kindness, every single student will receive their own signed copy of the book. Many 7th graders have indicated that this is their first ever signed book and they are delighted! \r\n\r\nYour contribution does more than put a novel in each student's hands. It creates a shared reading experience (all 7th graders will read \"Alone\" in conjunction with the visit), encourages thoughtful discussion about the book and experience, and inspires a genuine excitement for literature. It also provides all students an equal opportunity to engage in a nationally acclaimed author visit and the book signing, which is often reserved for those students/families who can access these opportunities on their own and purchase books to be signed. For every student that has never had these opportunities, a visit and experience like this can be transformative. \r\n\r\nWhile we are unable to share images of the students, the following were gratitude notes they submitted during class. It's hard to express their enthusiasm when they found out they were getting a copy of \"Alone\" (for free and signed) in this letter, but we hope their sincere appreciation shines through in just a few of the student notes and in the poster in the image.\r\n\r\n-\"Thank you so much for your generous donation! Your generosity makes it possible for students to immerse themselves in open-ended engineering and problem-solving challenges—projects that mirror the work of real scientists, engineers, and innovators.\r\n\r\nEach day, students engage in great conversations as they collaborate, share ideas, and plan their designs. They listen to one another's perspectives, debate possible solutions, and think critically about how to overcome the obstacles they encounter. The problem-solving discussions that unfold are some of the most meaningful moments—students analyze what isn't working, adjust their designs, and celebrate each small success together.\r\n\r\nThrough challenges such as rescuing stranded toys, building wind-powered machines, inventing force-and-motion games, managing resources during a \"zombie apocalypse,\" and planning survival systems for life on other planets, students strengthen essential STEM skills and habits of mind such as perseverance, resilience, and flexible problem-solving.\r\n\r\nBecause of the materials and science kits you provide, students test, refine, and bring their ideas to life.
