We planned and created several different projects using kiln fired clay and glaze. Clay is the most popular of all art materials with my students. I was very grateful I could teach with this medium to all of my elementary aged students which is over 400. The most expensive part of clay projects are the glazes. The money provided by Donors Choose let me purchase quality glazes so that each child's project lasts decades.\r\n\r\nMy students were very excited to build out of clay. Some projects were tied to the general education classroom subjects. This made learning even deeper and more engaging. A couple examples were ceramic African masks and Mexican Folk Art Clay Suns. With the saturated color of the glazes used, these pieces are always my students' and their families' favorites. This is the first project I have had funded. The materials I was able to buy through this project support my students because in a school setting we have limited funding for classroom materials, and because I work in a bilingual school and need resources in Spanish and English.\r\n\r\nSome of the materials that have been inspiring and helpful for my students include exciting new picture books, including Jabari Jumps, the beautiful story of a young boy overcoming a fear. My students and I work together to learn new vocabulary words, story grammar and a love of listening to, understanding and telling stories. These skills will last them a lifetime and improve their receptive and expressive language skills. I also work with students on the autism spectrum and use the new Social Inferences fun deck that was part of my project to present different scenarios to my students and to work through how to make inferences, predictions and to solve problems that can translate to their daily interactions. \r\nThank you so much these items and the many others that you so kindly you have provided to support my very special students.","fullyFundedDate":1727462851429,"projectUrl":"project/flex-your-communication-muscles/8577636/","projectTitle":"Flex your Communication Muscles","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Carolyn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2717246"},{"teacherId":9301282,"projectId":8937511,"letterContent":"My students used the resources I purchased to make plaster masks. We've been hard at work learning this semester, and the new resources have been extremely helpful!\r\n\r\nStudents in multiple grade levels were excited to use the new white boards. Especially after our keyboard unit this fall, they enjoyed seeing/being able to draw on the keyboard section of the white board. This week, first graders have been practicing drawing lines notes and space notes on the staff section of the white boards, which you'll see in the pictures. It's always helpful to have new Expo markers as in Colorado things dry out quickly with our low humidity in the fall/winter. I use whiteboards and markers with every grade level so I can see individual work. \r\n\r\nOur 4th graders just finished their recorder unit. The recorder rack helped keep recorders organized and contained in my classroom, and also more sanitary since they are no longer being piled on top of each other in a laundry basket. Students can now quickly find their recorder on the rack and don't have to sift through other recorders to get to theirs. There is room for 60 recorders and this year that is perfect for our enrollment from 3rd-5th grade.\r\n\r\nLastly, we received a new alto xylophone. This year we have huge class sizes, with multiple grade levels having 30-31 students in a class. A new instrument means that 2 more students can share an instrument when I do whole group instruction with Orff instruments. \r\n\r\nMost of my xylophone units occur in the second semester, but there is already a plan to use xylophones in our 4th grade concert in March 2025. 5th graders will also use xylophones when they embark on their 12 bar blues unit in February. Kindergarten will start their improvisation unit in the springtime as well.","fullyFundedDate":1723154602140,"projectUrl":"project/help-fund-new-music-supplies-for-ces-mus/8564558/","projectTitle":"Help Fund New Music Supplies for CES Music Department!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fida","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7445187_orig.jpg?crop=2448,2448,x0,y187&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1597385649072","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7445187"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41396","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":369,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":65,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":61,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"10.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":79.3,"schoolId":41396,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Columbine Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Columbine Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/boulder-valley-sch-dist-re-2/columbine-elementary-school/41396"}
