With your help, 135 students have been able to access relevant, meaningful stories. \r\n\r\nPrior to reading our first novel, students analyzed various texts about Yusef Salaam and The Exonerated Five. They generated inquiry questions including: Why are people of different races treated poorly? How can art heal? How do people survive hard times? \r\n\r\n\r\nStudents have started to explore these questions in \"Punching the Air\" by Ibi Zoboi and Yusef Salaam. They have found me outside of class to share how much they are enjoying the book and several have said they find it relevant. When reading in class, students are verbally reacting to the story set in front of them. They are laughing, sighing, gasping.
