Each day, students know that if they are feeling hungry, they can grab a small snack so they can refocus and continue learning. Recently during our reading and writing block, a few students who usually struggle to stay focused were able to quietly grab a snack and return to their work. Instead of feeling distracted or tired, they were able to stay engaged in our lesson and participate in our discussions. Something as simple as a snack has helped create a calm and supportive learning environment where students can focus on doing their best.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the snacks arrive in our classroom, they were so excited and incredibly grateful. Many of them immediately said \"thank you\" and asked who helped provide them. It was a wonderful opportunity to talk with them about kindness and generosity and how people in our community care about their learning and well-being. My diverse group of dual language second graders works very hard every day, and it meant a lot for them to know that others believe in them and want to support their success.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, my students will keep using these snacks to stay energized during our learning blocks, especially while we work on reading comprehension, writing projects, and building our bilingual skills. Right now, we are focusing on strengthening our reading and writing in both languages, and having the energy to stay focused helps them fully participate in lessons and collaborative activities. Lessons feel more hands-on, and students are eager to participate and stay focused. Several students who were once shy or struggled with confidence have shown noticeable growth, using the technology to practice independently and take more academic risks.
