I hadn't participated in years past, but was thrilled at the prospect. My classroom was in serious need of some quality of life updates, and a refresh on supplies that I'm simply not able to provide on a year to year basis. \r\n\r\nIt turned out that my information was bad, and that the funding wasn't going to come. I shared my project with a couple of family members, but essentially had no hope at that point. My needs weren't flashy, they weren't tied to some grand project or output. It was a laundry list of basics and items that increase comfort in the classroom for my students. Things that are severely needed, but that the general public sees as luxuries. I gave up hope and pressed on with what I had, trying to make the best of it. \r\n\r\nDecember rolled around and in the season of giving I found myself blessed by a generous local corporate donor, the gift has been transformative. The three most important items on my project wishlist were wobble seats for fidgety learners, a class set of personal whiteboards, and a new fan. \r\n\r\nThe wobble seats are a great alternative to have for many of my students who are impacted by ADD or ADHD. It allows them a chance to let their body move, while remaining in one place and staying focused on tasks at hand with their teammates - class sessions in my room are always team oriented and managing those behaviors had become one of my biggest time sinks. \r\n\r\nThe whiteboard allow for an middle ground option for students who may not like the visibility that comes with working at my wall mounted boards around the classroom, but who still want to use bright colors and have the satisfaction that comes with the feel of writing with an expo marker. Now, nearly all of my students feel comfortable and included because of this seemingly small change. \r\n\r\nAnd the quality fan is perhaps (sneakily) the biggest game changer. My classroom has three large, south-facing windows. When the cold seasons roll around and the building climate control switches over to heat, it becomes a sauna in the afternoons. Heads fall on desks constantly, and those that can remain upright lack the ability to focus due to environmental conditions. On a teacher budget, you can find inexpensive fans, but they either move air, or keep quiet - not both. This funding allowed me to have both which truly transforms my space. \r\n\r\nI will be singing the praises of DonorsChoose and my individual donors until my last day in the classroom, which is a long ways off. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.","fullyFundedDate":1764706956185,"projectUrl":"project/building-a-thinking-classroom/9554171/","projectTitle":"Building a Thinking Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Greening","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10161300"},{"teacherId":1539690,"projectId":8567169,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support.
