I teach 7th grade Social Studies. The primary geographical focus is on the Eastern Hemisphere and the time period is from ancient times to the Middle Ages. In order to connect the history and, frankly, the relevance of all these ancient locations, I want to do a Current Event Project with my students. Each month, students will use a TIME for Kids article and research a current event happening around the world. They will research how the event connects to our content areas (geography, history, economics, and civics) and present their findings to the class. This will hopefully help bridge to connection and interest between our world today and the past.
