Our students stay quite busy during their school day and tend to go through quite a few materials! We often end up replacing things out of our own pockets, and your funding of this project has greatly reduced these costs for us as teachers! \r\n\r\n Our students were so excited to see the packages we received containing all of our donated supplies! They were especially excited to see the stock of sensory putty in assorted glittery colors! We have used the putty almost every day during our reading and math groups to allow the students to keep their hands busy while their minds are engaged in our curriculum. Sometimes this putty ends up in their noses or mouths but having an adequate supply allows us to be able to replace the putty so the next child has a clean container! We also use the dry erase markers and erasers daily during our academic groups as well as during individual work time. Once again, our students can be hard on these materials, especially the markers, and now we have plenty to allow our students to keep using them day after day. We also have two students who love writing and drawing on our classroom whiteboards, and they have loved having new markers and erasers to draw their lines of people, draw their favorite advertising logos (a fixation of one of our students), and just practice writing words and numbers. \r\n \r\n Another huge hit with our students are the weighted lap pads. Many children with autism love the feeling of something heavy on their laps or laid on top of them while they are in the calming area. These lap pads are so soft and the perfect weight to allow the students to set them on their laps while doing their school work or just to cuddle with them when they need a break. And finally the fruit snacks have been very well-received by the students! We use them not just as a regular snack, but also as a reinforcement for appropriate behaviors and meeting goals. Just one small fruit snack can motivate a child who otherwise would not want to comply with certain work expectations or behaviors. We go through thousands of those little motivators each year and not having to buy them out of our own pockets is really super helpful. \r\n\r\n Overall, your donation has made a tremendous impact in our autism classroom! Often the small and simple things or lack thereof can make the biggest impact in our program as our students tend to utilize consumable materials quite quickly and on a daily basis. We are so very grateful that you found this project to be a worthwhile cause for your donation!","fullyFundedDate":1757611118195,"projectUrl":"project/autism-room-supplies/9547711/","projectTitle":"Autism room supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bigelow","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8606423"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_53036","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":326,"numTeachers":24,"percentFrplEligible":60,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":37,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":48,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"13.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":60.3,"schoolId":53036,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Skyview Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Skyview Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/adams-12-five-star-schools/skyview-elementary-school/53036"}
