We used the double-sided whiteboards daily as we learning letter formations, and how to sound out and write words! We used the sentence strips to learn to write short sentences! These tools were so important to our learning, and by the end of the year, our class wrote and illustrated two books that were then published for friends and families to enjoy!\r\n\r\nThe storage bins provided allowed our teachers to store literacy and math activities that were created throughout the year for small group instruction, and the velcro was used to developed adapted books, adapted communication, and additional learning activities (i.e. for patterning, story predictions, sequencing, and number to quantity games). It has been wonderful to see students become excited about reading and proud when they successfully decode a word.\r\n\r\nMy students were so excited to open the box and discover all of the new books for our small-group reading time! They were especially excited to learn that each student would have their own copy of the same book so we could all read together. My students were also thrilled to discover that the books include real photographs of children, places, and everyday things. Their excitement made our first reading experience together so special!\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue using these books during small-group reading to strengthen my student's decoding, word recognition, and comprehension skills. We will practice reading the books together using the real photographs to make connections and build understanding. As students become more confident, we will work toward reading books with more advanced words and increasingly complex text as their reading skills continue to grow. They are really working on the double and halving strategy and the over strategy. One child got an answer right and acted super surprised.
