My students use the dry-erase boards to share their thinking, practice new vocabulary, solve problems, and work together during small-group lessons. The plastic folders help students keep their work organized so they can look back at their learning, recognize their progress, and continue building on their ideas.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments has been watching students gather around the table with their boards, excited to share an answer or explain their thinking to a classmate. What might seem like a simple whiteboard to an adult becomes a place where students feel comfortable taking risks, making mistakes, trying again, and using their voices. For my students who are developing their English language skills, having a space where they can practice speaking, writing, and collaborating has been especially valuable.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were excited to see that the resources were specifically for them. They immediately wanted to use the tables and boards. Their excitement reminded me that classroom resources do more than provide supplies, they can communicate to students that their learning matters and that they are worth investing in.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue using these resources during small-group instruction and collaborative learning. Students will use their boards to practice academic language, explain their thinking, and respond to questions connected to grade-level content. Students are building words, manipulating letters and sounds, practicing phonemic awareness, and beginning to apply their letter-sound knowledge to read CVC words. One of my favorite moments has been watching students build a word with the letters, say each sound, and then blend the sounds together to read the word independently.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were excited to explore them and immediately wanted to start building words. The hands-on activities have helped make literacy practice feel like something they can actively do rather than just something they are being taught. As we continue our structured literacy instruction, our next step is to strengthen students' ability to connect sounds to letters and use that knowledge to decode and read more CVC words. They are doing their thinking on the board which allows me to do quick check ins with questions to help get them thinking and analyzing the connection between the words and proving their answers. \r\n\r\nIn my math class, the kids have been working with partners to take a written sentence and changing it to expressions. They are really working on the double and halving strategy and the over strategy. One child got an answer right and acted super surprised. I asked her why she was surprised and she said because she never gets answers right.
