Feet are being wiped on the mats, the couch is being sat on, pillows are being hugged, and young minds are seeking to learn while proving over and over again how bright and aware they already are. \r\n\r\nEach young person who steps into my office surprises me. They surprise me with their alertness, their resilience, their grasp of the world and how it works, their ability to see the big picture, and their understanding of right, wrong, and their own values. They also surprise me with their ability to understand what their challenges are and what support they need, and I am grateful when they choose to confide in me. \r\n\r\nHaving this warm and welcoming office space is so essential in making these interactions possible.
