We are currently wrapping up Fall Semester with end of semester projects and final exams. The art supplies have helped students create amazing movie posters, history inspired cookbooks, historical children books, and US History inspired songs and musical albums!\r\n\r\nToday my US History/Race and Social Justice classes took their final exams. They earned exceptional scores after a fun week of review games. Last week we got to break out our new buzzer system to play Jeopardy and the kids had a blast! Many students commented on how fun & engaging the class was because of the creative projects and the competitive review games we play. They enjoyed the fun method of review instead of the countless study guides they'd been working on.\r\n\r\nHaving the different colored paper, colored pencils, markers, and especially the different skin tone pencils helped my students elevate the voices of minority groups in their projects. One group of students created an epic movie poster telling the true story of the Trail of Tears. Another group created a video game poster and concept titled \"My Land.\" This focused on indigenous culture and life in Early America prior to colonization. Another group created a \"Homefront\" cookbook that had recipes used during WWI rationing in the US with an emphasis on women & African American's contribution to the war effort. We also played Tapple, and students had to make alphabet based associations with specific topics/units in history. A lot of them commented on how the games were helpful in making them remember what we learned throughout the semester. It helps them engage with the material in a way that was more entertaining than the six study guides they were assigned in other classes!\r\n\r\nI appreciate your donations and willingness to back my project to gamify history! It was a huge success and kids are eagerly asking when we will play Tapple and Jenga again! The tuners make tuning all the guitars super efficient and easy for the students, with minimal guidance needed from me. This allows them to be more independent and take responsibility for making sure they are in tune. \r\n\r\nThe capos are a real godsend. We are working on projects in which the students get to pick a song of their own choosing to play for thee class. They are required to play along with the original recording. However, many of the popular songs they want to play require a capo. If they don't have a capo they can't use that song. The graphing calculator has been a game-changer, especially for those who struggled with graphing by hand.
