The addition of proper gloves has reinforced safe and professional lab practices, helping students understand that science is not just about getting results, but about maintaining sterile technique, preventing contamination, and protecting both themselves and their samples. The autoclave has taken this a step further by allowing us to properly sterilize media and equipment in-house, which mirrors industry and research lab standards. Instead of relying on pre-made materials, students now see the full workflow of preparing, sterilizing, and executing experiments, which deepens their understanding of why each step matters. The western blot materials have been especially powerful in helping students connect abstract concepts about proteins to something tangible, as they can now visualize and analyze protein expression rather than just learning about it theoretically.\r\nWhat has been most exciting for students is the sense that they are doing \"real science.\" The western blot components, in particular, have sparked a lot of curiosity because students are able to detect specific proteins and begin asking their own questions about what those results mean. Several students who are typically quieter in class have really stepped up during these labs, taking ownership of protocols, troubleshooting issues, and even helping their peers interpret results. I have also seen strong engagement from students interested in medical and research careers, as they recognize these are the exact techniques used in professional labs. It gives us so much more time during class to learn and not be bogged down with organizing. The laminating sheets help with making fun reusable activities that students can use to have a hands-on learning environment. Students, parents, staff and faculty, and substitute teachers have commented on the additions and expressed interest in using and/or obtaining them for themselves.\r\nStudents are benefiting from the calculator chart in so many ways and parents are so thankful! Students switch their phones with their assigned calculator at the beginning of the period. This helps them in two ways; they have access to an equitable calculator without having to fund it themselves and they are not as distracted by technology during lessons and activities. I have had many parents thank me for my calculator policy and even a substitute teacher complimented me for it and said that it made her job that day so much easier.\r\nThe light covers and window curtain have made the classroom safer and more enjoyable. The light covers allow me to keep all of the lights on, but have less led light/stimulating effect. This helps students with light sensitivities as well as students who get overstimulated during class. The window curtain allows for a cozier environment as well as security during lock down drills.\r\nThank you again so much for the financial support in my classroom this year.
