Students, parents, staff and faculty, and substitute teachers have commented on the additions and expressed interest in using and/or obtaining them for themselves.\r\nStudents are benefiting from the calculator chart in so many ways and parents are so thankful! Students switch their phones with their assigned calculator at the beginning of the period. This helps them in two ways; they have access to an equitable calculator without having to fund it themselves and they are not as distracted by technology during lessons and activities. I have had many parents thank me for my calculator policy and even a substitute teacher complimented me for it and said that it made her job that day so much easier.\r\nThe light covers and window curtain have made the classroom safer and more enjoyable. The light covers allow me to keep all of the lights on, but have less led light/stimulating effect. This helps students with light sensitivities as well as students who get overstimulated during class. The window curtain allows for a cozier environment as well as security during lock down drills.\r\nThank you again so much for the financial support in my classroom this year. They've been especially helpful for holding microfuge tubes during bacterial inoculation and a variety of microbiology activities. Instead of tubes rolling across the bench or getting misplaced, the racks allow students to work more efficiently and confidently with their cultures. One of our recent projects involved transferring and growing bacteria, and the racks provided the stability needed for students to keep their samples organized and safe while they worked.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the new racks, they were excited to realize how much more \"real lab\" their setup felt. Many commented that it looked just like what they had seen in college or professional lab tours. Having designated places to secure their tubes has made the lab feel more professional and has encouraged students to treat their work with even greater care.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will soon be expanding into DNA and protein analysis labs. While we haven't reached those units yet, the orbital shaker and vortex mixers will be key for mixing reagents, preparing samples, and carrying out those advanced procedures. These tools will allow students to experience more authentic, industry-aligned techniques and give them a true glimpse into what working in biotechnology research is like. The racks, shakers, and mixers together will continue to support my students as they take their next steps into more complex experiments and data analysis.","fullyFundedDate":1746627377770,"projectUrl":"project/rocking-rolling-and-discovering-in-the/9283891/","projectTitle":"Rocking, Rolling, and Discovering in the Lab!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Wai","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7141471_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1664574489010","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/dwai"},{"teacherId":9811990,"projectId":8954622,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to my wellness corner! I just finished teaching a three-week mental health unit where students learned about self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship building, and responsible decision making. One of the topics we covered was identifying and managing emotions. The students researched and presented different ways to manage their emotions. The culminating activity for that lesson was to make calming jars! I explained to the students that we all have moments where we feel like our lives are like a tornado with everything swirling around! When they feel like that, they can shake their calming jars and breathe until all the glitter settles. This will give them time to calm down and get grounded again. All the students loved their calming jars! Most students took theirs home but some asked if they could keep theirs at school to use. \r\n\r\nWe also used our breathing bear to practice breathing techniques. The bear plays soothing sounds and lights up to help students calm down. This is especially helpful on test days and after lunch. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, we use the conversation cards all the time. We use them as opening exercises, with partners, or even as brain breaks to get kids talking and to help build community. They were apprehensive at first to open up but now they look forward to learning more about their classmates and they recognize that they are not so different from each other!
