Students used the playdoh to physically sculpt representations of ethos, pathos, and logos. Watching them mold their understanding into tangible forms was incredible! One student created a heart for pathos, explaining how emotions connect to an audience. Another built a trophy for ethos, showing how credibility matters. These creative moments helped abstract concepts become concrete and memorable.\r\n\r\nBeyond the engaging lessons, the storage materials and containers have been game-changers for our classroom management. Our cabinets are now becoming organized so that we can find what we need quickly, saving precious learning time. The materials containers keep student supplies ready for quick distribution. The owl pellets were a hit and students liked exploring food chains and the flow of energy through the pellet dissection. Connected to the dissection the biome games allowed students to use cards showing the connections between organisms in a habitat and energy flow. \r\nThe storage containers helped to organize the different lab materials. It helped separate dissection, maps, chemicals and more. \r\nThe students were very excited about the daphnia. They were interested to study macro organisms. they studied agriculture impacts on daphnia in local waterways. They went around and collected different plants to make their photos. Some students also brought objects from home and love how the solar energy captures the images in the paper. \r\nThe hydropower dam the kids loved building together. Once they built it they were able to generate electricity and see the different LEDS light up. \r\nMy APES students loved using the connectors too. This year's musical was a milestone for us; for the first time, we didn't have to worry about the logistics and costs of borrowing equipment. This is something that we have had to worry about in the past, so much so that we have not had microphones simply because another school got to them first. They were eager to see how the frogs and fish cohabitate. I have different students daily who come in to check on and feed the frogs. They have noticed the frogs have to be watched closely during eating since the minnows love to eat anything they see. \r\n\r\nThe other live microorganisms have the students a closer look at what unseen creatures help an ecosystem thrive. They made amazing atomic structures out of the Geomakers and magnetic ball and stick models. Then they build on this knowledge and used different color legos to show ionic compounds transferring colored electrons and covalent sharing legos in their outer rings. \r\nOnce they knew the smaller structures it was time to head outside. They used the pocket microscopes to go around the campus and look at items of choice for a closer look at their structures. Some of their favorites were ants, leaves, tree bark and the concrete. They noticed that all of these different things made of carbon looked different whether it was tangible outside or even when looking at the molecular structures and how they made different bonds with different atoms. The Ecosystem, Coral Reef and Savannah card games were a fun way to introduce relationships between animals in an ecosystem. The students got to see types of species and predator, prey connections in the greater food web of each biome. Looking at our ecosystems on a smaller scale students explored campus and looked at the structures of both man made and natural products on the pocket microscopes. They loved seeing life up close and personal. We even took out samples from our fish tank to view algae and macroinvertebrates. \r\nIt is often hard to find an all encompassing lab for soil sciences, but the Carolina soil lab nocked it out of the park. The students build permeability demos and were really able to see how different soils behave. Once they learned of the properties and productivity of each soil type it was time to set up their own inquiry. We used the grow lamp to conduct a 6 week study on what the best soil type for alfalfa would be. This tied in soil, water and plant interactions in our local ecosystem. The students had such a meaningful connection to this lab since we are in an agriculture capital. \r\nThe skills and knowledge from these amazing labs has brough great experiences and memories to my students. I've had both past and present students come to explore the different materials and build. \r\nThe students favorite by far are the magnet sets. The Minecraft farming magnet cubes have been turned into many different farming structures. There were groups of 4-7 students working together on different creations. The magnatiles had a similar impact where students have been building planes, cars and different structures. \r\nFor more individual building students have worked in the wooden stem kits and build binoculars that they've brought outside to use. Also, solar race cars and a wooden airplane to race. They were amazed at the speed the toys they made had. \r\nThis stem exploration station has had a huge impact on my students creativity, curiosity and collaboration skills.
