The excitement on their faces when they first saw all of the boxes and bags of snacks was priceless. They were amazed to see so many of their favorite treats such as Pringles, granola bars, Cheese Balls, Cheez-Its, snack mix, pretzels, Pop-Tarts, and more!! literally right in their classroom!\r\nThese snacks have become such a meaningful part of our classroom community. Throughout the school day, there are times when a student may be hungry and have difficulty focusing on the lesson in front of them. Having snacks available means I can make sure my students have something to eat so they can return their attention to learning. Instead of a growling stomach becoming a distraction, students can grab a snack and get back to being first graders...learning, participating, and having fun.\r\nOne of my favorite moments has been watching students learn that our snack supply is something we share as a classroom community. We practice taking what we need, being respectful of our supplies, cleaning up after ourselves, and making sure there is enough for everyone. What started as a box of snacks has become another opportunity to teach my students independence, responsibility, kindness, and consideration for others.\r\nMy students are also learning how to recognize and communicate their own needs. When a student quietly tells me, \"Miss G, I'm hungry,\" I know they can have a snack without feeling embarrassed or having to go through the rest of the lesson distracted by hunger. That small sense of security can make a big difference for a six-year-old.\r\nRight now, my first graders are continuing to build their foundational reading, writing, and math skills. We are working on becoming stronger readers, practicing our sounds and high-frequency words, building number sense, and learning how to work independently. As the year continues, these snacks will continue to support our students throughout the many lessons, activities, and projects ahead.\r\nThank you for investing in my first graders and helping me create a classroom where my students can learn with full hearts, full minds, and—thanks to you—sometimes full tummies, too! What may seem like simple classroom appliances have made a meaningful difference in our students' everyday lives.\r\nMy students were SO excited when the materials arrived! They could not believe that our classroom was getting its own mini fridge, microwave, and ice maker. They immediately started talking about what they could bring from home, how they could keep their food cold, and how nice it would be to have cold water and ice available....especially on those hot California days.\r\nSince receiving these resources, our classroom has become a space where students can independently take care of some of their basic needs. Students use the refrigerator to keep food and drinks cold, the ice maker to get ice when they need it especially after recess/PE, and the microwave to warm up meals such as noodles. Having these resources available has also given students opportunities to practice responsibility. They have learned to take care of the equipment, clean up after themselves, and be mindful of sharing these resources with their classmates.\r\nOne moment that really stood out to me was seeing how naturally my students began looking out for one another. A student would notice that a classmate needed water or wanted to warm up their food and would help them navigate our classroom routines. Something as simple as having access to food, water, and a comfortable place to store their belongings helped create a stronger sense of community in our classroom.\r\nYour donation did more than provide appliances... It really helped create a classroom environment where students felt cared for, comfortable, and supported. I am incredibly grateful that you chose to invest in my students.\r\nAs we continue learning, my students are building their independence, strengthening their academic skills, and preparing for the next step in their education.
