Usually, the STEM kits can be supplemental to our usual lessons. They can be used for our early finishers or students just looking for a change. This year, we are still attempting to reverse-engineer some kits, but it has proved to be challenging. We are not giving up, but figuring out the process and starting with simple kits first. The unusual way these STEM kits have saved the day this year is that we had issues with Google Permissions, and many students were unable to access their Chromebooks. Having the kits as a backup plan was a tremendous help! Most importantly, the kits help to engage students who are struggling with finding their passions.","fullyFundedDate":1755718005632,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-stem-projects/9490095/","projectTitle":"Hands on STEM Projects","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Melendrez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6407807_orig.jpg?crop=451,451,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1572202242845","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6407807"},{"teacherId":8068356,"projectId":9522715,"letterContent":"I want to sincerely thank you for giving me the opportunity to provide a safe and supportive environment for the students I work with each day at our school. Your generosity has made a meaningful difference in their lives, and I am truly grateful for your support.\r\n\r\nHaving a space where students feel comfortable and supported is essential to their growth. Many of the students I work with face challenges that can make school feel overwhelming, and having a trusted adult to talk to about their concerns makes a significant difference. By offering a snack during sessions, students feel cared for and valued. It shows them that someone at school is an advocate for their well-being and is invested in their success.\r\n\r\nYour support has allowed us to create this sense of safety and belonging. Students are more willing to open up about their worries, helping them build confidence and stronger coping strategies. This would not have been possible without your generosity.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for supporting student well-being and helping create an environment where students feel safe, seen, and heard.","fullyFundedDate":1756225426864,"projectUrl":"project/sustaining-success-snack-donations-for/9522715/","projectTitle":"Sustaining Success: Snack Donations for Effective Therapy","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Pedro","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8068356_orig.jpg?crop=720,720,x294,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1641419040212","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8068356"},{"teacherId":8068356,"projectId":9055384,"letterContent":"Today, I successfully facilitated a social-emotional learning (SEL) lesson with a group of 8th-grade students at the school where I work.\r\n\r\nThe objective of the activity was to promote self-awareness and emotional expression by encouraging students to choose a specific color or design for their rock, and to reflect on the meaning behind their choice. As the students painted and designed their rocks, I walked around the room, engaging with them individually to explore and process the emotions or thoughts tied to their selections.\r\n\r\nBy the end of the activity, many students shared that they felt calm, grounded, and more connected—both to their peers and to their own emotions. When I came into the classroom this year, I knew that most teachers have to provide out of pocket for some of the supplies they use in their classroom. I also knew that I wanted my students to create flashcards for their vocabulary words. I have only Sophomores and Juniors this year, and I was floored to find that they have never done flashcards in any of their prior classes, so this was a wake up call for some of the students, but I have also found that it has helped to increase their retention of the material. The students receive anywhere from 15-30 vocabulary words a week... I have 114 students... needless to say, we have gone through a number of index cards this year so far.
