The first time they saw the LEGOs and magnetic blocks, they immediately began building tall towers, \"castles,\" and even working together to design a \"bridge.\" What started as simple play quickly turned into a lesson in teamwork, problem-solving, and persistence. I was amazed to see students who are usually more hesitant eagerly collaborating and sharing ideas with their peers.\r\n\r\nThe classroom chimes have also been a wonderful addition. Instead of struggling through noisy transitions, my students now pause, listen, and calmly move to the next activity when they hear the soft sound of the chimes. This small but powerful tool has created a sense of peace in our classroom and helps them practice mindfulness in a way that's age-appropriate.\r\n\r\nThe sensory fidgets have been especially meaningful for a few of my students who sometimes have difficulty regulating their emotions. Now, instead of feeling frustrated or overwhelmed, they can quietly use a fidget to stay engaged and focused during lessons. Moments like these remind me of the big impact these \"small\" tools can make.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we will continue using these resources. These resources are already shaping not only how my students learn but also how they interact with one another.\r\n\r\nThank you for making our classroom a place where curiosity, creativity, and calm can thrive. Your generosity is helping build the foundation for both academic and emotional success in my young learners.","fullyFundedDate":1751568279168,"projectUrl":"project/building-brains-and-calming-bodies-in-tk/9437861/","projectTitle":"Building Brains and Calming Bodies in TK!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Torres","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10040852_orig.png?crop=796,796,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1751084149131","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10040852"},{"teacherId":9196939,"projectId":9221692,"letterContent":"Getting this project funded has greatly enhanced the learning experience for my students! The kids love to write sentences, equations, and draw on the boards and they particularly like how colorful the writing is and how easy they can erase it with just the push of a button.\r\n\r\nI will continue to seek resources to better serve my students and I feel confident in my ability to provide for them with your continued support. Many students who previously found books uninteresting have been captivated by Rick Riordan's fast-paced storytelling, relatable characters, and humorous writing style. The novel's first-person narration, filled with wit and adventure, makes the reading experience enjoyable and accessible, especially for reluctant readers. As a result, I have seen an increase in students voluntarily picking up books and participating more actively in class discussions about literature.\r\n\r\nBeyond enhancing their reading habits, *Percy Jackson* has also enriched my students' understanding of Greek mythology and history. The book cleverly weaves ancient myths into a modern setting, sparking curiosity and encouraging students to explore the original stories behind the gods, heroes, and creatures mentioned in the novel. This has led to independent research projects, mythology-themed creative writing assignments, and even connections to other subjects like social studies. Students not only retain information better when presented through an engaging narrative, but they also develop critical thinking skills by analyzing character motivations and mythological themes.\r\n\r\nMoreover, the book's themes of friendship, identity, and perseverance have resonated deeply with my students, inspiring them to reflect on their own lives. Percy's struggles with feeling like an outsider, dealing with learning differences, and navigating friendships provide important social-emotional learning opportunities. Many students have expressed how they relate to Percy's journey of self-discovery and resilience, which has helped boost their confidence and sense of belonging. Overall, *Percy Jackson & The Olympians* has transformed my classroom into an environment where reading is exciting, learning is meaningful, and students feel empowered by the stories they read.","fullyFundedDate":1731842008884,"projectUrl":"project/ignite-imagination-with-the-lightning-t/8900664/","projectTitle":"Ignite Imagination with \"The Lightning Thief\"","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Neelands","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9521918_orig.jpg?crop=1365,1365,x0,y159&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1714261449472","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9521918"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40017","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":998,"numTeachers":42,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":97,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"23.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":78.6,"schoolId":40017,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Robert Bruce Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Robert Bruce Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/santa-maria-bonita-school-dist/robert-bruce-elementary-school/40017"}
