What started as a seasonal activity—carving and studying pumpkins—quickly transformed into an engaging science project that involved decomposition, composting, and eventually gardening. Students were amazed as they watched the pumpkins break down over time, observing changes in texture, smell, and even witnessing new life sprout from the seeds we left in the soil. This simple, natural process sparked so many thoughtful questions and deepened their understanding of ecosystems and sustainability.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, especially the composting bins and gardening tools, the excitement in the room was electric. Students couldn't wait to get their hands dirty—literally! They were eager to take ownership of the project, rotating jobs to mix soil, track decomposition progress, and eventually plant and water our new garden beds. Many of them had never planted anything before, so watching them care for the sprouts and celebrate each new leaf was truly special.\r\n\r\nNow, we're moving forward with a student-led garden that will grow throughout the school year. We're using the composted pumpkin soil to nourish a variety of plants, including herbs, vegetables, and flowers. This garden will not only support science lessons, but also tie into math (measuring growth), art (sketching plant life), and writing (journaling about the process). Your support has planted more than just seeds—it's growing curiosity, responsibility, and joy in our classroom.
