When we unboxed the materials, they were extremely excited to see them in action. The first time we used them was for lessons on place value. Place value is a difficult concept for many students, but having the base ten blocks helped students visualize. For the 5th graders that I have, using the place value disk was a useful item when adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing.\r\n\r\nCurrently, we are using the fraction tiles. I have a challenge for my students coming up to see what equivalent fraction they can create using the tiles. Then, what additive fractions can they use to make one given fraction without changing the denominator? \r\n\r\nI am so grateful to you all. This is inspiring me to create more engaging lessons in other areas of math too.
