As I write this in my shared office-classroom, I also can't believe how much our space has flourished in that time. In the spirit of the holidays, I send a thank you note and an update about how your generous donations have help center relationships, repair, healing, and socioemotional learning at our school.\r\n\r\nThe carpet, pillows, and desk have help give our room the needed structure to help our students use our space more intentionally. With them, we have facilitated class community building circles for students and for staff, restorative conversations, grief support circles, student focus group circles for assessing how well we've been doing restorative practices, and a support group for our boys of color.\r\n\r\nI am proud of the work we have collectively done to learn how to support safety and care at our school. We have a lot more to do, and I know our materials will only get more used as students and staff members join and begin to lead our restorative justice team. Students are always in need and want of water and it is so nice to be able to send them to the back of the classroom to get it, rather than sending them all the way down the hall, during which time they often get distracted and miss important instructional minutes.
