The high-interest stories capture their attention and encourage them to share their ideas and make connections with what they are reading.\r\n\r\nOne of the students' favorite moments is when we read the plays. They especially love becoming the characters and reading their lines with expression. Students eagerly choose roles, practice together, and perform for their classmates. I have seen even quieter students become more willing to read aloud when they can step into the role of a character. These activities make reading feel exciting, social, and fun while helping students build confidence and fluency.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first received the Storyworks 3 materials, they were excited to see the colorful magazines and discover the stories inside. This has saved valuable class time and helped create smoother classroom routines.\r\n\r\nOne project where the impact was especially noticeable was our balloon race car engineering challenge. Students used balloons, wheels, straws, rubber bands, glue, tape, and popsicle sticks to design and test their own cars. Because the materials were clearly organized, students spent less time searching for supplies and more time building, experimenting, and collaborating with their teams. The organization has also helped students feel more ownership of the classroom because they know where everything belongs. Through that, I was able to purchase different resources to use in the classroom. One resource was this little Chinese reader booklet. They were characters to a simple Chinese song that students were able to sing along with. The booklet had extensions of the song as well to make it more challenging if needed. There are a few booklets for different Chinese nursery rhymes and songs. \r\n\r\nAnother resource purchased was for the teaching fruits in Cantonese. We practiced the pronunciation of the characters, and then each pair was tasked to be creative and make up a song for their fruit using a melody from a well known nursery song like Twinkle Twinkle or Mary had a Little Lamb.
