The students were so excited to see the brand new colorful carpet when it arrived at the end of September. What a difference it has made in our classroom. The bright vibrant colors have made it a much more inviting place to gather. The squares are also bigger and provide more space for each student to sit during learning time. When students finish their work, the carpet area is the first place they want to go to visit the class library or do a floor puzzle. \r\n\r\nWith our new math curriculum, we have a lot of math center games. The new carpet has provided a place for partners and small groups to spread out and play their math games. It is also bigger than our last carpet so it creates a larger community circle when students sit on the edge of the carpet. This is helpful when I need to model how to play the math center games.\r\n\r\nThe carpet is also a major hub during plan-do-review time when students can choose their activity. Many collaborative structures have been built here using magnatiles, foam blocks, straws and stars, or Keva wooden planks in the past month.
