My 9th and 10th grade students walked into a refreshed classroom with the alternative seating option, and they were amazed by the community support from you. \r\nWith the alternative seating and the conversation cubes, we committed to building the community and being open with each other. Students learned more about each other and embraced differences. Moreover, students generally feel more comfortable to share their feelings and respect each other. The squishies toys, stress balls, slime, and snacks brought bright smiles to students' faces. Even if challenging things happen in life, they'd remember that they are loved and supported by so many amazing community members like and that, their presence at school would always be celebrated.\r\nYour care and donation made a lasting impact in our learning community. Since the pandemic, it has taken a while to get labs back up and running. It was especially frustrating to have students trying to complete labs with chemicals, when the goggles were inflexible and the elastic wasn't stretchy anymore. It simply wasn't safe and we did very few experiments as a result.\r\nNow that we have the new goggles, students are excited to participate! They can see out of clear, non-fogging lenses and the goggles stay on. We recently did a flame test lab where students were able to burn different chemicals to see the colors given off - this is how chemicals were initially identified. Their learning about electrons moving, was really helped by being able to see what happens.\r\nAs we are facing a significant funding crisis in public schools across the country, it is wonderful to know that there are people who are willing and able to support student learning.","fullyFundedDate":1726657437107,"projectUrl":"project/i-can-see-clearly-now/8795202/","projectTitle":"I Can See Clearly Now!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Quessenberry","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9754778"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_49010","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1505,"numTeachers":68,"percentFrplEligible":57,"percentAsian":10,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":35,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":39,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"22.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":80.0,"schoolId":49010,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about University City High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"University City High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/san-diego-unified-school-district/university-city-high-school/49010"}
