Students will have opportunities to practice early reading and spelling skills through hands-on activities and colorful learning materials. These resources allow us to provide more individualized practice and create materials that meet students where they are in their learning journey.\r\n\r\nOne of the most valuable aspects of these resources is the way they help us support the whole child. We want our students to develop not only their academic skills, but also the confidence, independence, and self-regulation skills they need to navigate their school day. There was definitely a learning curve associated with this tool. The pen worked very well in reading however, it did take a slight delay which could be problematic for our students with attention issues. The pens themselves did help the students access materials they wouldn't have other than been able to access.\r\n\r\nI chose just a few students to try these pens with, who had good math abilities but who also struggle with their reading ability. It was the hopes that it would allow them to show more independence when trying to do their math word problems. We tried to use more time to collect more data but the results were favorable\r\n\r\nOne of my students made good progress to be able to use the device, however as for its supporting her educational needs, It was still just one more thing she had to learn this year. It is my hope that next year she will gain even more practice use and ability to utilize this tool. A second student of mine struggled to use the pen due to her her ability to focus and maintain focus through grade level assignments. She was able to operate the pen, but not apply it to actual work within the classroom. With more prompting and additional practice it may become a valuable tool for her Only time will tell.\r\n\r\nOverall these pens have been very eye opening to the limitations the students are facing every day with their limited reading ability. Having something that not only reads it to the students but at times can translate into the students language is very beneficial. I hope that with more practice and utilization of this tool, I will be better able to support the students in using this device. One project my students especially enjoyed was making a windsock. They used the paper, glue, markers, and paint to create different designs on their windsock. They could not wait to open everything and kept asking when they could start using it. Seeing all of the new colors, paper, paint, and supplies made them eager to create. 🎨✨\r\n\r\nThese materials have given my students more opportunities to explore, imagine, and express themselves. My students created various pieces of art by tearing paper and using those pieces to build their own pictures. This activity will help strengthen their fine motor skills while also encouraging creativity and independence. Being able to print the scaffolded assignments for my students in color has also boosted their confidence because my students are able to work more independently. The wobble stools were the biggest surprise. Students were so excited to use them, and they were amazed that they could move and still stay focused during lessons. The Play-Doh and alphabet stamps also became instant favorites. Students began spelling sight words, making letters, and practicing sounds without even realizing how much they were learning. It made our center time feel new and fun again.\r\n\r\nWe now use the wobble stools every day during reading and writing time, and they have been especially helpful for my extra active students and my students with special needs who benefit from flexible seating. They help these students stay engaged, comfortable, and ready to learn. Our new seat sack pocket chairs have made a big difference too—they keep our desks clean, our books organized, and help students stay prepared for each lesson. The Play-Doh, ink pads, and stamps have become a key part of our literacy centers.
