I explained the purpose of the calming corner and the rest of the items to them. I did implement a rule that if we are using it as a quiet reading area then it would be a limited number of students who can read in that area and after 5 minutes they would have to switch with another waiting classmate. \r\n In the beginning the students would use just the calming corner when they needed some space or time to help regulate their emotions. Then the started to use the couches and pillows to sit and read, as well as the calming corner to also read. Randomly a student will get a weighted animal to help regulate their emotions. I have also seen students use the breathing bear to help calm down too. \r\n When they first saw the materials they were so excited and everyone wanted to be in that area, that's when I implemented the number of students who could be in there and a time limit. They felt like the classroom had a piece of home at school with the setup. I heard from parents that their child talks about the area at home and when their parents come in they love showing them the area. \r\n This project and my students happiness as well as future students happiness couldn't have been possible without your contributions. I truly appreciate all donors for helping to make this dream a reality. I even have other staff members who have heard that I have this set up, come and visit my classroom. They are amazed and wish they had something similar.","fullyFundedDate":1763867354487,"projectUrl":"project/calming-area-quiet-reading-area/9425888/","projectTitle":"Calming Area/ Quiet Reading Area","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lopez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7214359_orig.jpg?crop=2735,2735,x0,y911&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752874317713","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7214359"},{"teacherId":9705192,"projectId":9186821,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous support of our classroom. I wanted to share how we've been using the new resources and the impact they've already made on our students.\r\n\r\nWe use the sensory materials every day during our social-emotional learning sessions. Students choose items from the sensory shelf to help them regulate before beginning a task, and the new bookcase has quickly become a favorite spot for selecting calm-down books. One of my favorite moments so far happened during a small-group session: a student who often struggles to communicate independently walked over to the shelf, picked up a sensory animal, and said, \"I want squshie.\" It was such a powerful step in building self-advocacy and emotional awareness.\r\n\r\nThe students' reactions when they first saw the materials were priceless. Several gasped as they entered the room because the space looked so different from last year. They immediately began exploring the sensory toys, pointing out their favorites, and asking if they could use them right away. Their excitement reminded me how meaningful these tools are for their comfort, confidence, and growth.\r\n\r\nMy next step is to continue using these materials and resources as my students and their needs grow and change throughout the years. Thank you so much for being a part of this journey with us.\r\n\r\nThank you again for making such a meaningful difference in our classroom.
