With access to quality science materials, students explore concepts through experiments, investigations, and real-world problem solving instead of only reading about them.\r\n\r\nAt this age, students are naturally curious and eager to understand how the world works. Having the right tools allows them to ask questions, test ideas, think critically, and make meaningful connections to what they are learning. These tools have provided immediate, healthy outlets for stress and overwhelming emotions.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were excited and eager to learn how to use them. My students love to engage with books together so having a class set of not one, but two different novels opens up a world our class can explore, together. A Tale Dark and Grimm is a favorite of many students which explores themes forgiveness, courage and trust. Exploring Themes in our class is an essential standard and can not only make them better readers but also make them more rounded humans. \r\n\r\nThe second novel that we received is Restart. I am so excited to start this returning after Winter Break. This book explores themes such as identity and responsibility as well as talking about the social aspects of bullying and social hierarchies. This teaches students that it is never too late to make a change and that everyone is capable of being the better version of themselves. \r\n\r\nThis will be a great rest of the year learning and exploring themes during our novel studies.","fullyFundedDate":1759710116676,"projectUrl":"project/5th-grade-grows/9793148/","projectTitle":"5th Grade Grows","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Valle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8523374"},{"teacherId":8940145,"projectId":9578857,"letterContent":"This project will allow students to experience the full joy of giving. Colorful posters, anchor charts, and student-created drawings now brighten the room and serve as constant visual reminders of key concepts. Notes and handouts in color stand out more, which helps students focus on important details and retain information longer.\r\n\r\nWhen teaching new material, the use of color makes a significant difference across subjects:\r\n\r\nMath: Highlighting steps in problem-solving with different colors makes it easier for students to follow processes like long division or algebraic equations. Graphs, charts, and geometry figures are also much clearer in color.\r\n\r\nELA: Color-coded notes for grammar, reading strategies, and writing prompts help students distinguish between parts of speech, literary devices, or writing structures.\r\n\r\nScience: Diagrams of life cycles, human anatomy, or experiments are far more effective in color, allowing students to see details and relationships they would miss in black and white.\r\n\r\nSocial Studies: Maps, timelines, and historical images become more engaging and realistic when printed in color, helping students better connect with the material.\r\n\r\nOverall, the color printer has not only made the classroom more visually appealing, but it has also improved student understanding, engagement, and excitement for learning.
