Because of your generosity, my students now have books they were truly excited to start reading. Many of my students have struggled with reading in the past, but this year they have already finished three novels and are continuing to grow more confident every day.\r\n\r\nRight now we are reading one chapter a day together. We talk about the characters, the choices they make, and the challenges they face. We also connect the story to other subjects and to our own lives. Reading has become something we look forward to each day, not something students try to avoid.\r\n\r\nWhat has meant the most is seeing students who never wanted to read before asking for the next chapter. My English learners and students with disabilities are participating, reading along, and feeling proud of themselves. Watching them discover that they can enjoy a book has been incredibly special. In the future, we hope to continue building on this excitement and turn our classroom into a Harry Potter themed space that celebrates reading and imagination.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and helping them discover the magic of books.","fullyFundedDate":1769029100990,"projectUrl":"project/magic-hope-and-the-power-of-books/9748714/","projectTitle":"Magic, Hope, and the Power of Books","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Casillas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7465679_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x0,y252&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1597938494725","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7465679"},{"teacherId":7465679,"projectId":8932241,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our classroom and helping bring our calming corner to life. When my students first saw the new materials, they were immediately curious and excited. Several of them went straight to the space to explore the fidget tools and read the calming posters. For many of my students, learning how to pause and regulate their emotions is a skill they are still developing, and having a dedicated space where they can do that safely has already made a meaningful difference in our classroom environment.\r\n\r\nStudents are now using the calming corner when they feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or need a moment to reset. They are learning that it is okay to step away, use a tool to help calm their bodies and minds, and then return to learning when they feel ready. One powerful moment happened when a student who was beginning to feel angry chose to go to the calming corner, use a sensory tool, and take a few minutes to breathe instead of escalating the situation. Afterward, he returned to his seat and was able to complete his assignment. Moments like this show students that they have the power to manage their emotions in healthy ways.\r\n\r\nThe calming corner has also helped create a more positive and supportive classroom atmosphere. My students are beginning to understand that taking care of their mental and emotional well-being is an important part of learning. As we continue building these skills, we will use the space during lessons about emotional regulation, goal setting, and problem solving. My hope is that these strategies will stay with my students long after they leave my classroom and help them navigate challenges in school and in life.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has helped create a safe space where students can learn how to pause, reflect, and make better choices.
