Your contribution has allowed me and my classroom shelves to fill that role. The best part is probably that a good portion of the books are student-curated, and this all happened due to your assistance! \r\n\r\nI teach junior and senior-level English, but students from all grades, 9-12th, come to my room to borrow books. It is an honor and a privilege to fill this need and to watch students across grade levels come a-hunting for books. \r\n\r\nMy hope is that each year the junior level class will complete my most-loved books survey and the responses will team up with your assistance to help grow our library.\r\nEach student who completes the survey and sees the DonorsChoose project become funded, completes a book review that lives inside of the book's cover to encourage future readers of the work's value. We read \"1984\" and \"Slaughterhouse Five\" in English 12 this year. Many students have shared that since reading the work, they see references to it everywhere. They've also told me that they think about it a lot due to the current political climate. \r\n\r\nNothing is more pleasing to an English teacher than watching young adults take up a text and explore its symbolism, vocabulary, themes, topics, and character analysis with interest. I was so pleased to see students engaging both of these texts and stick with the reading to the finish. Along the way, students completed a variety of activities that encouraged them to consider the text and its meanings from different lenses.\r\n\r\nStudents also ended up designing parts of the unit, including writing questions that would be options for their final in-class essay. The questions they constructed revealed a high level of comprehension and interest in the books. Your contribution to their learning is priceless; it truly made a world of difference in my classroom and their lives.","fullyFundedDate":1755736305002,"projectUrl":"project/wed-love-to-get-our-hands-on-1984-and-s/9539678/","projectTitle":"We'd Love to Get Our Hands on 1984 and Slaughterhouse-Five!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Aly","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8677293_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y486&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721850514784","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8677293"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_74184","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":221,"numTeachers":13,"percentFrplEligible":69,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":10,"percentWhite":28,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":42,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":10,"gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":83.8,"schoolId":74184,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about The Met Sacramento High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"The Met Sacramento High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/sacramento-city-unified-school-district/met-sacramento-high-school/74184"}
