My 1st graders are using the magnetic tiles during small-group phonics instruction to build and manipulate words, helping them to connect sounds to letters in a hands-on way. Meanwhile, my 4th and 5th graders, many of whom are striving readers, were beyond excited to receive a new copy of Front Desk by Kelly Yang. Seeing their faces light up when they read from their new copies made all the difference.\r\n\r\nThese resources have already transformed our classroom environment. My younger students eagerly gather around to practice word-building, gaining confidence as they physically move letters to create new sounds and words. My older students have become more engaged in reading discussions, asking thoughtful questions and making deeper connections to the story. For many of them, this is the first time they've felt a sense of ownership and pride in reading a chapter book.\r\n\r\nAs we approach the end of the school year, my 1st graders are working toward mastering foundational phonics skills, while my 4th and 5th graders are diving deeper into reading irregular sight syllables, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and character analysis using Front Desk. Your support has not only provided materials, but it has also given my students renewed confidence and excitement about learning to read. I will also be able to use these materials with my future students in the coming years.
