It's exciting that districts are incorporating more sports into the elementary educational system, but soccer is not one of the sponsored sports. Therefore, teachers and schools must raise money for soccer programs themselves and provide opportunities to learn the game of soccer if they are not part of an organized league in their community. \r\n\r\nSports teach foundational socialization and leadership skills that are essential to their development. In my experience, the work ethic and desire to succeed on the field always translates into more focus and dedication in the classroom as well. Although sports are often overshadowed by curriculum and test scores, success on the field can be the catalyst that ignites a desire to make sound decisions regarding behavior, academics, and can lead to more lofty goals in the future as well. \r\n\r\nBecause of you, our students are challenging themselves to learn a new sport/skill, be more active, and I am confident they will grow up to be better students, citizens, friends, and humans in the long run.
