The alphabet and word-building activities have been a huge support in helping students connect sounds to letters and the fine motor games have strengthened their coordination and confidence. My students are learning to connect letters and sounds, recognize sight words, and build confidence as beginning readers. At the same time, the variety of titles has allowed me to challenge my handful of higher readers who are already reading above grade level, giving them engaging materials that help them grow while still feeling included in our class community.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is a joyful, active time—students gather for shared read-alouds, practice sounding out words during small group lessons, and beam with pride as they read familiar books independently. This has given them the opportunity to read something new, new titles, series, and authors.\r\n Over the course of the year, my students take a reading test to determine their independent reading levels. From those scores, student select a reading book slightly above their reading level. My classroom library is color coded by reading levels. Every day my students read silently for 20-25 minutes. When they complete their book they take a comprehension quiz. If they pass, they can move up levels. The books you donated gave my students more of a variety at each reading level.
