This space has already made a meaningful difference in our daily classroom environment.\r\n\r\nWith tools like a cozy tent, weighted stuffed animals, breathing visuals, and stress-relief toys, students have learned to recognize when they need a break and how to use calming strategies to manage overwhelming feelings. For many of my second graders, this is their first experience learning how to cope with emotions in a healthy, constructive way.\r\n\r\nBecause of this project, I've been able to teach emotional regulation in a hands-on, supportive environment. Instead of acting out or shutting down, students now have a safe space to process and return to learning more quickly and calmly. The calming corner isn't just a physical space—it's a tool that empowers young learners with lifelong social-emotional skills.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping create a classroom where students feel seen, supported, and ready to learn.","fullyFundedDate":1694547410427,"projectUrl":"project/calming-classroom-corner/7428315/","projectTitle":"Calming Classroom Corner","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Garcia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9066709"},{"teacherId":9066709,"projectId":7413888,"letterContent":"Gardening gloves for all of my second graders will allow them to safely participate and develop a love of cultivating not only healthy crops, but healthy food choices. For most students, growing and caring for their own garden has been a new experience. For instance, this fall we planted carrots, sweet peas, spinach, and lettuce. Students learned the importance of tending to our garden's needs by pulling weeds, adding worms as they learned they are decomposers, and worked alongside our special education students to teach them how to water and care for our crops.\r\n\r\nOur garden fostered the love for healthy eating and built a sense of community with students of different backgrounds.\r\nEveryone soon realized that many hands make for light work. Gardening gloves for all of my second grade students as well as our special needs students will create a hands on experience, one they will remember and possibly extend into their own homes.","fullyFundedDate":1686336277760,"projectUrl":"project/the-secret-second-grade-garden/7413888/","projectTitle":"The Secret Second Grade Garden","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Garcia","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9066709"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_62629","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":696,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":36,"percentAsian":5,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":29,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":50,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"24.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":85.0,"schoolId":62629,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Tomas Rivera Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Tomas Rivera Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/riverside-unified-school-district/tomas-rivera-elementary-school/62629"}
