Manga also encourages students to think about how words and images work together to communicate meaning.\r\n\r\nReading in our library is becoming an experience filled with choice, conversation, and excitement. Students who may have been hesitant to pick up a traditional novel are eager to grab a manga volume and begin reading independently. I have especially enjoyed seeing reluctant readers become excited when they discover a series they love. Students recommend books to one another, discuss characters and storylines, and return looking for the next volume. The books also open the door to meaningful conversations about identity, culture, mental health, racism, resilience, belonging, and the experiences of people whose stories are not always represented in traditional school libraries. Students are learning that reading is not simply about understanding a story—it is also about developing empathy, questioning what we read, and gaining a deeper understanding of the world around us.\r\n\r\nBecause these books are available in our school library, their impact extends beyond a single classroom. Students across the school can discover a title that speaks to their interests, experiences, or curiosity. I am especially excited for students who may not always see themselves reflected in the books available to them to find characters and stories that make them feel seen and valued. At the same time, our more advanced readers now have access to rich, complex texts that challenge their thinking and strengthen their love of reading. Because of you, over one hundred students are able to utilize the specially designed reading curriculum for our middle school students. The headphones with microphones allow students to practice their phonics and reading fluency as well as to allow their teachers to hear and see their progress. \r\n\r\nOften middle schoolers are self conscious about being beginning readers, and the headphones allow them to practice phonics and readying fluency privately away from their peers where they are not heard practicing letter sounds. \r\n\r\nThank you for allowing our students to access the reading program with the right equipment.
