Not only did my five sections of science (with an average of 30 students per section) enjoy this project, but an additional eight sections taught by other science teachers were also able to participate. The majority of the cars successfully met their goal of traveling three meters.\r\n\r\nIt was incredible to watch students brainstorm their designs and bring their ideas to life. The amount of problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration they demonstrated was truly impressive. They communicated effectively with their partners and worked hard to achieve the project's goals. All of the materials were put to great use and provided a meaningful, hands-on learning experience.\r\n\r\nStudents concluded the project by creating a slideshow that connected their balloon car experiments to Newton's Three Laws of Motion. This activity really helped solidify their understanding of the laws and allowed them to see science in action.\r\n\r\nOnce again, thank you for making this project possible. Students got to read the books while learning about local mountain lions. The book was a great way for students to learn about the importance of mountain lions in the food web. The novel also talked about the threats to mountain lions. One day, students read the book outside on the back lawn with a view of Sonoma Mountain, where our local mountain lions live. The other two days I booked the library so the students could have plenty of space to read quietly. \r\n\r\nWe are fortunate enough to have mountain lions in our local ecosystem. Students also learned about our local mountain lion population from a guest speaker, Liz Martins who works with Living with Lions. Then, pairs of students picked one local mountain lion to research and make posters about. Students presented their posters to everyone could take data about all of the local mountain lions. \r\n\r\nTo end the unit, both of our classes to a field trip to hike in Mountain Lion Territory. The views on the top of Sonoma Mountain blew away students. At the beginning of the hike, students expressed their hopes for the day. Some wanted to see a mountain lion, others hoped they would not. As expected, we did not see any local mountain lions with 50 teenagers hiking up and down the trail. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for your support. I look forward to improving the unit for next year and reusing the books.","fullyFundedDate":1738466790939,"projectUrl":"project/tales-of-the-urban-wild/8984856/","projectTitle":"Tales of the Urban Wild","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rennie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-5_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2016848"},{"teacherId":8059566,"projectId":8650402,"letterContent":"My students were excited to plant native seeds using the materials we received through Donors Choose. They made labels for their container and planted the seeds. \r\n\r\nIt was heart warming to see 13-14 year olds appreciate being able to start the process of having native plants at their junior high school.
