The House on Mango Street introduces students to poetic vignettes filled with powerful themes—identity, belonging, family, and the struggles and dreams of growing up. Through this novel, students will strengthen reading comprehension, explore figurative language, analyze character development, and learn how to write with voice and purpose.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading isn't just about decoding words—it's about dialogue, discovery, and connection. We often read together, pause to reflect, share our thoughts in small groups, and write responses that link the text to students' own lives. This kind of reading experience is especially important for my English learners and heritage Spanish speakers, many of whom will see themselves in the pages of this novel for the very first time.\r\n\r\nI'm already thinking about a few students who I know will thrive with this book. One student in particular, who's been shy about speaking up, lights up whenever we read stories that reflect her culture and community. I can't wait to see her grow more confident as we dive into Esperanza's world.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in my students and making this dream possible. Your gift isn't just providing books—it's opening doors, inspiring voices, and sparking deeper learning. I'm so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1744222756942,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-latinx-culture-through-the-hou/9242257/","projectTitle":"Exploring Latinx Culture Through The House on Mango Street","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hoffmann","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4751344_orig.jpg?crop=400,400,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1755654429361","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hoffmannspanish1"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_104108","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":700,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":78,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":11,"percentWhite":16,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":61,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":null},"inStateSupporters":64.3,"schoolId":104108,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Riverside Preparatory Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Riverside Preparatory Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/oro-grande-elementary-school-district/riverside-prep-middle-school/104108"}
