I introduced the hedgehog balance pods to one of our Special Day Classes, and they were an immediate hit! The students loved stepping and balancing on the different surfaces while practicing coordination and body control. Their excitement showed me just how versatile these materials can be for helping students with different abilities and developmental needs experience success through movement.\r\n\r\nMy goal is for students' earliest experiences in PE to teach them that movement can be fun, challenging, and something they can feel confident doing. Students from second through sixth grade have been excited to learn and play this new activity. One of the things I appreciate most is how easily I can modify the game for different ages and skill levels. My younger students can catch the ball before sending it into another square, while my older students are learning to play with the traditional rules and are already becoming more competitive and strategic.\r\nThe reaction from my students has been wonderful. My sixth graders especially got into the game, and students began asking, \"Can we play this at recess?\" and \"Can you leave this set up?\" Seeing them excited about a new activity, actively moving, working together, and asking for more opportunities to play is exactly what I hoped this project would accomplish.\r\nWe will continue using 9 Square in the Air in PE as students develop their skills and become more comfortable with the game. It gives me another activity that I can adapt across grade levels while keeping students active, engaged, and challenged. Students can squat, carry, lift, slam, pull, and work the ropes while developing whole-body strength and cardiovascular fitness. Having enough equipment also means more students can be active at the same time instead of standing in line waiting for a turn.\r\n\r\nOne of my goals as a physical education teacher is to show students that being physically active does not have to mean being good at a particular sport. Some students thrive on the basketball court or soccer field, while others may discover that they enjoy strength training, fitness circuits, or simply challenging themselves to become stronger. The official pickleball nets and higher-quality paddles have allowed games to run more smoothly, stay organized, and feel much more authentic for the students. They lived this center and would repeatedly re-visit. The social emotional capes were a great addition to help promote social skills.
