I encourage them to recognize when they are beginning to feel overwhelmed or dysregulated, communicate when they need a break, and use the sensory materials and calming space until they feel ready to return to the group. The space also gives students a comfortable place to relax and recharge during breaks. These are valuable skills that help students learn how to listen to their bodies, advocate for their needs, and return to learning when they feel ready.\r\n\r\nThe reaction from students and adults has been wonderful! Everyone who enters the room is excited to see the new space. Students especially love exploring the fidget toys and relaxing on the bean bags. It has created a welcoming area where students can take a moment to breathe, reset, and feel comfortable.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I hope to continue developing this space as an environment that supports both learning and well-being. My goal is to help students develop meaningful strategies for regulating their bodies and emotions so they can feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
