They are loving the new current books, and are reading more, and growing in their reading level as a result. Overall, my students averaged 9 months of reading growth in 5 months' time. Almost double what we would expect. \r\nOne exceptional example is a student who was reading at the 4.4 level (4th grade, 4th month) who got ahold of Blood in the Water, one of my new books, and is just consuming books now. She asked for more by that author, and has moved on from reading My Brother Sam Is Dead, over and over. That student is now testing at the 9.5 level (9th grade, 5th month), in just 5 months. The perfect book makes all the difference. \r\nMy students are also loving the foot cushions and fidgets. Every child has something that they can use during class to help regulate themselves, and support their learning. \r\nOne favorite is the \"unimpressive prize box,\" that they get to choose from if they demonstrate excellence. They love to earn the opportunity to go to the unimpressive prize box, and the fidgets are some of the first things to be chosen. I had a student tell me, \"The stuff in the unimpressive prize box is so unimpressive, it's actually kinda impressive.\" The students appreciate your donations that allowed me to refresh the box, and look forward to seeing what is new.","fullyFundedDate":1767218879133,"projectUrl":"project/silent-fidgets-for-the-win/9670620/","projectTitle":"Silent Fidgets for the Win!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Cardle","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10235596"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5141","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":752,"numTeachers":35,"percentFrplEligible":29,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":60,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":29,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"21.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.0,"schoolId":5141,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Willowside Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Willowside Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/oak-grove-union-school-district/willowside-middle-school/5141"}
