Having a classroom library where students can find books that truly interest them makes reading feel exciting and personal.\r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to explore the new books and choose their own independent reading books. There was so much enthusiasm as they browsed the shelves, talked about books they wanted to read, and settled on their first choices. This has been particularly meaningful as we began our first book report of the year, giving students the opportunity to read a book they selected themselves and feel ownership over their reading. We have used these STEM bins as a soft start morning activity in which students work in their table pairs to build using a prompt. For example, \"build a school playground with your materials\". Watching the students come in with excitement to start their day with our STEM bins has been wonderful. It is a great way to get their brains warmed up to think creatively, work collaboratively, and take chances in the classroom. The students are always so proud of their creations. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first got to work with these new materials, they were so excited, giggling and exploring the boxes. When I told them that these materials were donated by a group of strangers who just wanted us to have access to them, they were so shocked and amazed that people who didn't know them cared enough to help our classroom like this. We are so incredibly grateful to have the support of you all!
