Several of them gasped when they opened the lids and saw so many colorful bricks, and one student shouted, \"¡Mira, maestro, podemos construir todo!\" We immediately dove into a STEM challenge: build a structure tall enough to reach the \"rain cloud\" (a paper cloud hanging above our carpet). Students worked in small bilingual groups, discussing ideas, testing designs, and adjusting their creations when towers wobbled. It was incredible to see them naturally using both English and Spanish to negotiate, problem-solve, and explain their thinking.\r\n\r\nSince then, we've woven the LEGO materials into multiple parts of our day—math centers, literacy storytelling, and free-choice exploration. During one lesson, students built the setting of a story and then retold it using vocabulary from our unit. The hands-on pieces helped them stay engaged and gave emerging bilinguals the confidence to express themselves. I've also noticed major improvements in fine motor strength and collaborative play. Students who were once hesitant to join groups now eagerly partner up to \"be engineers together.\"\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, these materials have become a daily source of creativity, language development, and joy in our classroom. Our next steps include a class LEGO museum where students will design, label, and present their own creations to families in both English and Spanish.
