When the boxes arrived, they were so excited that they cheered, clapped, and immediately started saying \"thank you\" to our DonorsChoose donors for making it all possible.\r\n\r\nThe soft core colored pencils have already been a huge hit—our recent one-point perspective project, where students designed a street corner with storefronts, came to life with beautiful, vibrant colors. Their artwork turned out stunning, and the pencils made all the difference.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students are preparing for our next project: using the watercolor paper, Blick watercolors, and oil pastels to create pieces for our Square 1 Art fundraiser. They are eager to explore blending watercolor and oil pastel techniques to make their work truly unique.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting additions has been the 50 pounds of air-dry clay! For the first time, I can guide students through hands-on 3D art projects, something they've been wishing for and are thrilled to try.\r\n\r\nEven the everyday supplies are making a difference—students are already using the glue sticks and flair pens daily, and now each student has their own set in their pencil box. Since receiving the wobble stools and cushions, I've seen a noticeable improvement in my sensory-seeking students' ability to focus and engage in classroom activities. The materials allow them to stay active while learning, which helps channel their energy in a productive way. The constant movement helps them stay grounded, allowing them to focus on their tasks without becoming distracted or restless. This has been especially helpful during longer sessions when they might otherwise struggle to remain seated for extended periods.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the wobble stools and cushions, their reactions were a mix of excitement and curiosity. Many of them immediately wanted to test out the stools, bouncing and shifting their weight to see how they worked. For some, it was a new and fun experience, and for others, it felt like a reward that allowed them to move freely while still being part of the class. As a teacher, I've seen these new resources foster a sense of inclusion and support. It's been wonderful to watch students who often feel disengaged or restless be able to participate more actively in group discussions and independent tasks.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these resources will continue to play a key role in our ongoing lessons about mindfulness and self-regulation. In our next steps, we plan to integrate these tools into our classroom routines and tie them into lessons about managing sensory needs, promoting positive behavior, and setting personal goals for learning. The wobble stools and cushions are already making a positive impact, and we're excited to see how they help students grow both academically and personally.","fullyFundedDate":1755720977628,"projectUrl":"project/wiggly-but-wonderful-helping-4th-grader/9606273/","projectTitle":"Wiggly But Wonderful: Helping 4th Graders Focus with Flexible Seating","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Smith","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5849467"},{"teacherId":1065374,"projectId":9540184,"letterContent":"Our class was so excited to see a huge package arrive in our classroom and even more excited to see brand new red chairs coming out of the box. The students gathered around as we unboxed them, and the reactions ranged from wide-eyed curiosity to joyful cheers. For many of my students—especially those who are neurodivergent—these chairs have truly been a game changer. They provide an outlet for movement and self-regulation without disrupting learning, which has created a calmer, more focused classroom environment for everyone.\r\n\r\nOur neurodivergent learners, in particular, have thrived with this new option. Before, sitting still for extended periods could feel overwhelming and sometimes lead to frustration or disengagement. Now, these students can gently rock or wiggle while they work, which helps them maintain attention and reduce stress. I've noticed that they participate more during lessons, finish their tasks with greater confidence, and seem genuinely happier throughout the day.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments so far was during a small reading group. A student who typically struggles to stay in his seat asked to use a wobble chair—and for the first time, he stayed fully engaged from start to finish. He even asked if we could read one more story! Moments like that remind me just how impactful these resources are.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these chairs will continue to support flexible seating for group projects, independent work, and classroom discussions. Our next step is to integrate more collaborative learning experiences where students can choose the seating that best helps them succeed.
