We are eager to show you where we play each week and let you know how grateful we are. \r\n\r\nRight now, as of January 4, 2026 we are back at school after the holidays. We started the chess club in October and most of the students now know the basics--how to set up the board, how pieces move and how they capture other pieces. \r\n\r\nWe play in the school library surrounded by books which gives a calm, studied atmosphere to our games--although the excitement often breaks through the quiet. \r\n\r\nGenerally, I float around the library to the different tables where students play and make sure they are moving pieces correctly and ask if they have any questions. Sometimes I play a game with a student if we have an odd number of players. \r\n\r\nOur club meets on Tuesdays. We have one group of about ten fifth graders who play first in the library right after school and a second group of third and fourth graders who play the next hour. These are all after school students. \r\n\r\nStudents are focused and I can see them thinking hard about the game. Getting good at chess is a slow process, but every session students are learning more. There are always a few check mates and for the students who don't finish a game within the hour we are using the point system to determine the winner. \r\n\r\nThank you so much for your generosity in helping our students learn this captivating game. We are having so much fun.","fullyFundedDate":1761191101628,"projectUrl":"project/delta-view-chess-club/9845246/","projectTitle":"Delta View Chess Club","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Robertson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10321579"},{"teacherId":3835438,"projectId":9449648,"letterContent":"I want to thank you again for contributing items to my new classroom space at school! I never would have been able to fill this space with items that make it feel like a safe, warm, and comforting space for these students without your help. \r\n\r\nYour donations allowed me to purchase a rug with many different soft and alternative seating options. These have helped me create a peaceful, welcoming area where children can take time to talk it out with me as their counselor, regulate their emotions, calm down, and refocus on learning.\r\n\r\nThis space has already made a meaningful difference. Students are learning that it's okay to take a break, practice coping strategies, and return to class ready to learn and connect. Your support has helped us give students a place where they feel safe, seen, and cared for — something truly invaluable in their growth and emotional well-being.\r\n\r\nThank you again for your kindness and generosity. The students are able to store their Chromebooks in locked lockers and charge them at the same time. This is especially helpful when other students in the after school program use our classroom. The lockers also help organize the Chromebooks and the students are able to get their Chromebooks by looking at the numbers on the Chromebooks. \r\n\r\nThe students also have the flexibility to get their Chromebooks whenever they are finished with their assignments and work on the approved websites for Accelerated Reader and read books on Epic!, as well as read their stories from our reading program and do their math assignments online. The three lockers that were funded also give us enough charging plugs so that all of the Chromebooks can be charged at the same time. This saves us time. When the new cleaning and art supplies, along with the games, arrived, my students were full of excitement. They couldn't wait to open the art materials and begin creating, and the classroom games have already become a favorite way to build teamwork and problem-solving skills while having fun together. The cleaning supplies are helping us keep our learning space organized and welcoming, which makes a big difference in helping students feel proud of their classroom.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was seeing students light up when they used the new art supplies during our creative writing and drawing activity. They were so proud to add extra color and detail to their projects, and the joy on their faces was priceless. The games have also given students a positive outlet during free time and group activities, teaching them cooperation, patience, and sportsmanship. And perhaps the biggest hit of all—the students absolutely love the new digital clock in our classroom. Many of them said it's \"super cool,\" and they enjoy using it to stay aware of time and transitions during the day.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these resources will continue to support both academic and social-emotional learning. The art supplies will be used for upcoming class projects and celebrations, the games will strengthen friendships and classroom community, and the cleaning materials will help us maintain a safe and inviting space. Right away, we began using the markers in small group projects and art activities, and the students loved having fresh colors to bring their ideas to life. The magnetic timer has quickly become part of our daily routine, helping students stay focused and transition smoothly between activities. The stamps have become a favorite—students light up when their hard work is recognized with a fun stamp on their papers.\r\n\r\nThe first time I pulled out the stamps, the entire class cheered, and it instantly created a positive buzz in the room. These little rewards are making a big difference in motivation and pride. \r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using these tools in writing, math, and group projects. The markers will help with posters and presentations, the timer will be part of our test-prep routines, and the stamps will keep encouraging effort and improvement.
