The new resources have truly transformed our TK classroom. One specific moment that stands out was during our phonics center time last week. We used the Crayons Word Building Phonics Game and the Magnetic Letter Kit to help students build simple CVC words. The kids were so engaged they were taking turns pulling a picture card and using the magnetic letters to spell out the corresponding word on the double-sided magnetic tiles. One student spelled \"cat\" for the first time all by herself and was beaming with pride it was such a powerful moment! We've also been incorporating the diversity and social-emotional books during our morning meeting. Reading these stories has sparked meaningful conversations about kindness, feelings, and differences. The Eric Carle books have become a staple in our quiet reading area, and students are loving the familiar characters and colorful illustrations. Overall, these resources are helping to build early literacy skills, promote emotional growth, and create a more inclusive classroom environment. Thank you again for making this possible!\r\n\r\n When my students first saw the new materials, their faces lit up with excitement! They were immediately drawn to the bright colors of the Crayons Word Building Game and couldn't wait to start playing with the magnetic letters. Some of them started naming letters right away, while others began trying to build their names. When we introduced the diversity and social-emotional books, a few students pointed at the characters and said, \"They look like me!\" which was such a meaningful moment. The Eric Carle books were also a big hit many recognized the illustrations and excitedly said, \"I've read this one before!\" or \"Can I take this to the cozy corner?\" Overall, their reactions were full of joy, curiosity, and genuine engagement. It was clear that these materials sparked both excitement and a love for learning right from the start.\r\n\r\n Thanks to the donated materials, we've been able to build a strong foundation in early literacy and social-emotional learning. Right now, we're focusing on letter-sound recognition and blending sounds to build words. The next step for our students is to start creating their own mini books using the magnetic letters and phonics games as supports. They'll be drawing pictures and labeling them with simple words they've learned like \"sun,\" \"dog,\" or \"hat.\" We're also planning a class project where students will choose a character from one of the diversity or social-emotional books we've read, and share something they learned about feelings, friendship, or kindness. It's a great way for them to make connections between books and their own lives. These next steps will help reinforce both reading and emotional skills, and it's all possible because of your support. Thank you for helping us grow!","fullyFundedDate":1746786080467,"projectUrl":"project/reading-fun/9163273/","projectTitle":"Reading Fun","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Romero","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9475039"},{"teacherId":9475039,"projectId":9170912,"letterContent":"The new emotional blocks and the Big Feeling Pineapple set have been a wonderful addition to our TK classroom! We've integrated them into our daily morning routine as part of our social-emotional learning. Each morning, students pick a block that matches how they're feeling and share it during our circle time. This helps them start the day with emotional awareness and builds vocabulary around feelings. One specific moment that stood out was when a student who is usually quiet used the pineapple set to express that they were feeling \"frustrated.\" They added the matching eyes and mouth to the pineapple, and then explained why they felt that way. It opened the door for their classmates to offer support and talk about similar feelings. It was a beautiful, authentic moment of connection and empathy that really showed how powerful these tools can be in helping young children express themselves.\r\n\r\n When my TK students first saw the emotional blocks and the Big Feeling Pineapple set, their faces lit up with excitement and curiosity! They were immediately drawn to the bright colors and expressive faces. Several of them started naming the emotions right away, and others were eager to build different expressions on the pineapple. It sparked so much conversation even students who are usually shy were engaged and wanted to take turns. It was clear right away that these materials would become a favorite part of our classroom.\r\n\r\n Now that my TK students are becoming more familiar with identifying and naming their emotions using the emotional blocks and Big Feeling Pineapple set, our next step is helping them learn how to manage those feelings in healthy ways. We'll be introducing simple self-regulation strategies like deep breathing, using calming tools, and practicing kindness through role-play. The goal is to help them not only recognize their emotions but also understand how to respond to them. These resources have created a strong foundation for that growth, and I'm excited to see how their emotional vocabulary and empathy continue to develop throughout the year.","fullyFundedDate":1746786266143,"projectUrl":"project/sel-warmth-for-learning/9170912/","projectTitle":"Sel Warmth for Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Romero","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9475039"},{"teacherId":9475039,"projectId":9173773,"letterContent":"We've been using the new resources to enhance our unit on animal life cycles and animal life. One specific project that really stood out was when students worked in small groups to research and present the life cycle of a chosen animal. The Lakeshore Science Viewer that was donated to our classroom played a huge role in this project.\r\nUsing the viewer, students were able to observe close-up images of different animal life stages like butterfly metamorphosis, frog development, and even chicken embryos. This hands-on experience really brought the content to life. One memorable moment was when a group studying frogs used the viewer to examine the stages of a frog's life, from egg to adult. They were amazed to see the fine details, like the gills on a tadpole or how the legs slowly form. It sparked a lot of excitement and questions, and they ended up creating a detailed poster and presentation for the class. The new resources, especially the Science Viewer, have made our science lessons more interactive and engaging, helping students connect with the material in a meaningful way.\r\n\r\n When my students first saw the new materials—especially the Lakeshore Science Viewer—they were immediately curious and excited. Many of them had never used a tool like that before, so they couldn't wait to explore it. As soon as they realized they could see detailed images of animal life stages up close, the room buzzed with excitement. One student shouted, \"Whoa! I can see the frog's tiny legs growing!\" and others quickly gathered around to take a look. The materials sparked instant engagement and opened the door to deeper questions and observations. It really transformed the energy in the room and set the tone for hands-on, discovery-based learning throughout the unit.\r\n\r\n Thanks to the support of our donors, my students have been able to explore animal life cycles in an engaging, hands-on way. Now that they've built a strong understanding of how animals grow and change, the next step is for them to apply what they've learned through a creative project. Students will be choosing an animal to research in depth and then creating their own life cycle models using a mix of writing, drawings, and materials from the classroom. They'll also be using the Lakeshore Science Viewer to gather more detailed observations and include those findings in their presentations. We're excited to host a classroom \"Science Walk,\" where students will showcase their projects and explain the life cycles in their own words. It's a great way for them to take ownership of their learning and celebrate the hard work they've done so far.","fullyFundedDate":1746785702876,"projectUrl":"project/learning-through-science/9173773/","projectTitle":"Learning Through Science","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Romero","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9475039"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40276","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":570,"numTeachers":31,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":82,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"18.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":83.0,"schoolId":40276,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Burbank Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Burbank Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/modesto-city-schools/burbank-elementary-school/40276"}
