Each day, students use their journals to reflect on what they're learning about personal finance and how it connects to their own lives. Many have written about conversations they've had with their parents, sharing new financial concepts and what they have learned from their family's experiences. Since this class meets first thing in the morning and many students arrive without having eaten breakfast, the snacks you provided have been just as meaningful as the journals themselves, allowing students to focus on the lesson instead of their hunger.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, the students' reaction was immediate excitement, not just for the journals, but about what having one meant. Several students shared that they aren't always able to afford notebooks for their other classes, so receiving one, with extras available for their other subjects, was something they truly appreciated. It was a small reminder that a simple, practical resource can make a big difference in a student's day.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will use their reflection journals as the foundation for building a personal financial plan, including thinking through how they intend to afford college and what lessons about personal finance they most want to share with others. As a capstone to the semester, I plan to have students bring their journals home and go through them with their parents, opening a discussion about their family's finances and how this class has shaped their perspective.
