Your generosity brought an unforgettable experience to our classroom—one that sparked curiosity, wonder, and genuine excitement for science.\r\n\r\nOur class has been studying how all living things are connected, and the owl pellets you funded allowed my students to step into the role of real scientists. As soon as the materials arrived, the energy in the room shifted. Students gathered around the trays with wide eyes, eager to discover what secrets each pellet held.\r\n\r\nAs they carefully dissected the pellets using the tools provided, I watched my students transform—quiet students became leaders, hesitant students became brave explorers, and those who often doubt themselves beamed with confidence as they made discoveries. They sorted bones, compared them to charts, and pieced together evidence to figure out what the owl had eaten. It was authentic, hands-on learning at its very best.\r\n\r\nSome of the moments that touched me most were the reactions from the students themselves:\r\n\r\n\"I feel like a real scientist! I can't believe I found a skull!\"\r\n\"This is the coolest thing we've ever done in school.\"\r\n\r\nThese comments capture just a glimpse of what your kindness made possible.\r\n\r\nBeyond learning about food chains and ecosystems, students practiced teamwork, problem-solving, and perseverance. They were fully engaged, helping one another, celebrating each other's finds, and asking meaningful scientific questions. Several students who rarely participate were some of the most enthusiastic scientists in the room.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, my students experienced the joy of discovery—something that will stay with them long after the pellets are gone. You didn't just fund materials; you helped ignite curiosity, confidence, and a deeper love for learning.\r\n\r\nWe are truly grateful for your support and for believing in the power of hands-on education.","fullyFundedDate":1758836603820,"projectUrl":"project/pellets-with-a-purpose-exploring-food-c/9755913/","projectTitle":"Pellets with a Purpose: Exploring Food Chains Hands-On","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Servin","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2801048_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758688761068","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2801048"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_103679","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":796,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":53,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":5,"percentWhite":26,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":53,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"20.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":87.6,"schoolId":103679,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Herk Bouris Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Herk Bouris Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/menifee-union-school-district/herk-bouris-elementary/103679"}
